Tuesday, January 3 at 7pm
Speaker for our meeting wuill be:
Dr. Marc Appelhans, herbarium curator and researcher at the University of
Göttingen
His subject matter will focus on recent systematic research on the
Rutaceae including several of its North American representatives.
Note: I recently discovered a couple of little Common Hoptrees (Ptelea
trifoliata), members of the Rutaceae, growing at the Rumsey Monument Park
in Shepherdstown. They look to be several years old but have been hacked
down and are regrowing. They are in an area rife with invasive Gold Rain
Trees and Ailanthus. Everything beyond the wall along the cliffside above
the Potomac River has been cut down in recent years.

Kentucky Grown Chia Seeds

The company, Heartland Chia of Franklin, KY, was honored this September 16
as Senate Small Business of the Week:

Regarding Chia: Because of our late frost this year, I had a volunteer
chia plant (Salvia hispanica) bloom in recent days, the first time I've
had this happen since 2017, the year I learned what the mystery plants
were that had been growing in spots around my yard all summer.
