These projects are being used by local jurisdictions like Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax to obtain bogus pollution credits.? These projects won?t restore urban streams, and they cause permanent damage to existing natural resources.? Projects like Taylor Run will not benefit the Bay or Potomac River either.? These projects frequently fail to provide the water quality benefits that they claim to provide.? In fact, it is?believed that projects like Taylor Run will increase nutrient pollution.? The Taylor Run case study applies similarly to other upper headwater streams of the?region. The meeting will include 4 separate presentations by: Andrew Macdonald, PhD, geologist and Environmental Council of Alexandria Chair - introduction, overview of project, and moderator John Field, PhD, fluvial geomorphologist and stream restoration expert - why natural channel design (NCD) is not a best practice for Taylor Run and similar upper headwater streams of the region Rod Simmons, environmental scientist and ecological restoration specialist - diverse natural resources of the stream corridor and environmental regulations and requirements Russ Bailey, Tree Steward and local conservationist - obtaining pollution reduction credits through tree plantings There will also be plenty of time allowed for audience participation and Q&A.
