Zoom Webinar Registration is required. Linking Ecology and History, which is the primary text in the field of historical ecology. Her current research focuses on reconstructing and mapping past vegetation patterns and species distributions, and assessing the conditions that maintained them in the past and that might maintain them now. Climate and soils in the Mid-Atlantic region support forest vegetation, mostly deciduous forest. However, the region is also home to numerous native species of plants and animals characteristic of non-forested landscapes, many of which are in decline today. Dr. Southgate will present a historical analysis of this conundrum, using a variety of historical records, including pollen analyses. She will also relate these findings to conservation goals in today?s changing climate. The program will be presented online through Zoom, in webinar format. You will not be able to share your own audio or video with other participants, but you will be able to submit questions in writing during the program. Registration is required. After you register, you will receive a registration confirmation email with a link to the Zoom program.? The program is free and open to the public.
