Gorge
Leader: Rod Simmons
This program is free.  Please register at
https://goo.gl/forms/QmHVJeRa2UoQOPgF2  Drop-ins are also
welcome.
 Adults only.

The scenic Holmes Run Gorge is one of the most floristically and
geologically diverse areas of northern Virginia.  Massive cliffs and
outcroppings of bedrock abound, capped by ancient gravel terraces and
deposits of the Potomac Formation.  The vegetation of the Gorge is
diverse, with old-age forest stands and many species that are uncommon to
rare in the region.

Directions: Shirley Highway (395) to King St. (Rt. 7) west exit.
Gradually move to the left lane after exiting and take left onto N.
Beauregard St. at bottom of hill (N. Beauregard St. becomes Walter Reed
Dr. at this intersection at edge of the City of Alexandria and Arlington
County).  Follow N. Beauregard St. south and uphill past Seminary Rd. and
downhill to Sanger Ave.  Take right onto Sanger Ave. and continue a short
distance to its end.  Turn left into parking area (shared entrance with
school) and proceed to parking lot at woods edge and park.  Meet at the
Ford Nature Center, 5750 Sanger Avenue.  703-746-5525 (front desk).

*In the event of pouring rain, the program will be cancelled.

Below is an email I received from someone via the BSW webpage looking for
someone to teach a small botany class. I told her I could not do this but
asked if she would like for me to pass along her email to the BSW email
list. She said, yes, so here it is. I don't know anything more about this
than what you can see in her email. If you are interested, please write
directly to her.

Hi Kathy,

I am wondering if you'd be interested in giving a small group, one-off
classes in DC in a public location? I work for a start up that is looking
for various talents to list experiences in DC for locals and tourists. I
think a Botany class would add great flavor to the collection.

If this sounds like something you'd like to do or explore, we can chat or
meet for coffee and discuss.

Thanks,
Leila
