[BSW] road closure near Harpers Ferry as it impacts route to Ferry Hill

Should you be planning to come out to Sharpsburg for the Ferry Hill walk
tomorrow, Sunday, January 14, and be planning to come via Rt. 340, be
aware that there is a detour in the Harpers Ferry area.
Kathy's note: If planning to use Rt. 340 from Frederick to get to Ferry
Hill, one can turn off Rt.340 (shortly after passing the Brunswick exit)
onto Rt. 67 towards Boonsboro. One can either continue to the end of Rt.
67 to Boonsboro, then making a left and then another left onto Rt. 34 at
the light in Boonsboro. OR, use your GPS to help you find your way
using back roads into Sharpsburg. (Left on Trego, left on Mt. Briar,
left on Portstown, left on Rt. 34) (You hit Trego after driving north on
Rt. 67 about 6-7 miles.

NOTICE: U.S. 340 road closure for this weekend on the section between the
Potomac River and Shenandoah River. (transportation.wv.gov). Please allow
extra time for the detour.
US Route 340 to Close near Harpers Ferry
BURLINGTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Highways announces that
US Route 340 near Harpers Ferry will be closed to through traffic between
the Washington St./Shoreline Dr. intersection in West Virginia and the
Harpers Ferry Rd. (Route 671) intersection in Virginia 7am - 5pm on
Saturday, January 13 and Sunday, January 14. Access to the intersection
of US 340 and Chestnut Hill Road (Jefferson CR 32) will be closed during
this time as well. Access to downtown Harpers Ferry, Bolivar and the
Harpers Ferry National Historic Park will remain open via the US 340 and
Washington Street/Shoreline Drive intersection on the west end of the road
closure. Limited access through the work area for emergency vehicles
will also be provided.
The roadway closure is necessary for rock slope investigative work and the
signed detour will include State Route 9 and Harpers Ferry Road (Route
671) in Virginia as detailed on the map below.
In case of inclement weather, work will be rescheduled and further
notification provided.
