If I'd looked further down into my emails I would have seen that Emily had 
addressed the questions about what was happening at Carderock.  She said 
that this mulching had been going on for 10 years and that it has not 
appeared to have adversely affected the area.  She also said thre were 
numerous points of entry to the wildflower trail but planned to visit the 
site to check things out.
