VNPS programs are free and open to the public.

The lecture will summarize eleven years of biodiversity inventory efforts
from a National Park near the Nation's Capital.  Highlights of these efforts
include the documentation of 5,563 species:  including some that are new to
the flora or fauna of Virginia, some new to the District of Columbia, new to
North America, some new to science, some state listed for rarity, several
federally threatened species, and 58 peer-reviewed journal articles
published in the last 11 years.

Brent Steury is a Natural Resources Program Manager for the National Park
Service, where he has worked for 20 years. For the past eleven years he has
overseen the all-taxa biodiversity inventory for the George Washington
Memorial Parkway, a unit of the National Park Service in Virginia, Maryland,
and the District of Columbia. During his NPS career he has authored 38
journal articles on subjects ranging from plants, to pollination biology,
bees, beetles, and snails.  Prior to his NPS career he worked in National
Parks in Guatemala and Bolivia.
