This is sent on behalf of some folks who are hoping to convince the
state of Maryland to offer a native plants license plate:

This Thursday our legislature in Annapolis will be considering a proposal for a
native plant license plate. The aims and goals of this plate are the
preservation, protection, promotion, and propagation of our native plants.
Also included in this is the hope that we can then support the goals of our
other two plates, the Bay and the Farms. We would be the connecting link for
the three of us. For whatever reason there is a group that thinks this is not
necessary, our native plants are doing just fine. They don't need preserving,
protecting or propagating much less promoting.

Our question is this, in the past ten years to date have any of our botany
group individuals noticed a decline in native plants in general OR in specific
natives when walking favorite trails, visiting some of our favorite parks and
locales. Native plants that were there several years ago but are no longer.
Native plants that were once present in abundance and now have dwindled to very
small numbers. Our natives would include perennials, shrubs, trees, grasses.

An email with your response would be very much appreciated. It needn't be more
than a few lines (of outrage) but a quick response is needed by this Wednesday
as the hearing is Thursday.

You may email me at tilycog at comcast.net or forward directly to Sara Tangren at
stangren at umd.edu.

Thank you, one and all, for any assistance you can offer.
