Our next meeting (hybrid) will be on Tuesday, April 1 at 7pm with Zoom
doors opening by 6:45pm. The In-person location: W405/406 in the Botany
Department
in the National Museum of Natural History
The speaker will be Tim Makepeace, the orchardist at Peirce Mill. He will
share the history of the Peirce family with a special focus on Joshua
Peirce and his Linnean Hill Nursery and orchard. For nearly a decade,
Tim has worked to reestablish the orchard that occupied what is now the
grounds of Peirce Mill in Rock Creek Park and neighboring Hillwood Estate,

*Pre-meeting dinner:* 5:30 P.M. at the Elephant and Castle Pub and
Restaurant, 1201 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Phone 202-347-7707. The
restaurant is diagonally across from the Old Post Office Pavilion at 12th
and Pennsylvania, a few blocks from the Museum, with Federal Triangle the
nearest Metro station, and Metro Center also nearby.

Our speaker for May 6th will be Amy Highland. Amy is the curator at the US
Botanic Garden. Her topic will be ‘Curation at Botanic Gardens to Prevent
Extinction.'
